Publishers' Licensing Services
Publishers' Licensing Services (PLS) provides
rights management services to the publishing industry. Our primary
remit is to oversee collective licensing in the UK for book,
journal, magazine and website copying. We distributed £32.9million
from collective licensing in 2016/17, and have more than 3,620
publishers signed up with us as at 2017.
Together with the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society, we
own and direct the Copyright Licensing Agency. We also work in
partnership with NLA media access.
Our Vision is to provide efficient and effective copyright and
licensing solutions to support publishers in providing access to
their content.
We provide a range of rights management services and
initiatives, including:
- PLS Account Manager - our free online account management
service for publishers signed up to PLS
- PLS Permissions powered by PLSclear - our online permissions
services
- Access to Research - UK service providing access to academic
research to public library users
We also actively respond to Government consultations about
copyright.
PLS is a not-for-profit organization founded in
1981.
