Barrington Stoke: Production Controller

Award winning children's publisher Barrington Stoke is looking for a Production Controller to join our small but dynamic team. We publish about 60 new books per year, in addition to reissues and reprints. We publish fiction in both colour and black and white in a range of formats for children from 5 to 16+ and a small range of full colour picture books.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience of book production and a keen eye for detail.  You will be able to multi-task and remain cool under pressure as this role will entail juggling priorities and dealing with enquiries.

The job is a part-time position, 15 hours/week, based in our Edinburgh office. 

Your main responsibilities will be:           

  • Controlling and maintaining the production schedule,
  • Working closely with all members of the team to keep tight control on schedules for all titles at every stage of production
  • Organising the production of the books, POS and sales material: negotiating print prices, schedules, checking proofs and monitoring delivery, including management of external Shipping agents
  • Costing estimate requests for new titles and reprints to bring products in on budget

Additional desirable skills

*     Typesetting experience using Adobe InDesign

*     Experience of co-edition production


Start Date: ASAP

Annual Salary: £25,750 (pro rata £11,035)

Office hours: 15 hours per week (ideally 4 mornings in the office)

Holidays: 9.5 days per annum plus pro rata bank holidays
