Consultant Creative Director UK/Italy 2020 Season

Job Title: Consultant Creative Director UK/Italy 2020 Season

Organisation: British Council

Salary: Competitive daily rate (Consultant)

Status: Part-time, contract from 1 February 2019 to 31 December 2020

Location: United Kingdom

About the British Council:

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with - changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced consultant creative director to curate a UK season of culture in Italy in autumn 2020. The role is offered on a consultancy basis working 200 days from 1 February 2019 to 31 December 2020. The Season itself will run from September to December 2020.

As the UK prepares to leave the EU, cultural relations will continue to play an important role. UK/Italy 2020 is an exciting opportunity to showcase the best of UK culture in Italy (and Italian culture in the UK).

The Season will engage the next generation of British and Italian artists, creative entrepreneurs, influencers and researchers.

Alongside exhibitions, performances and other creative interventions, there will be a major digital element.

Key responsibilities:

• Curate a high-impact, cost-effective programme of cultural activity for the UK-Italy Season 2020 (September to December).

• Broker relationships between, and identify opportunities for, the UK and Italian cultural sectors, ranging from individual artists and small arts companies to museums and other major cultural institutes, enabling cultural activity which is in line with the Season's themes to take place in Italy during autumn 2020. Similarly, for science and education (the latter to be defined).

• Manage contacts with UK artists, companies and partner organisations taking part in, or wishing to take part in, the Season.
