Bookshop Day 2018

6 October 2018

There is no better day to visit your local (or indeed any) bookshop than Bookshop Day! Many shops will be hosting events and selling the limited edition bags.

Over 2,000 bookshops across the UK and Ireland will be taking part. Now in its second year, Bookshop Day - part of the annual Books Are My Bag campaign - is a celebration of the "pivotal role" bookshops play in local communities in the UK & Ireland.

Highlights for this year's Bookshop Day on Saturday 6 October 2018 include:

  • partnerships with National Poetry Day and Wellcome Collection;
  • a flagship event with celebrated authors and poets;
  • children running bookshops for the day across the UK;
  • new bookshop poetry from celebrated poets;
  • wellbeing events;
  • as well as author events,
  • poetry performances, bookshop parties and much more.

The BA website has a list of bookshops so you can easily find the nearest bookshop to wherever you are: see Bookshop Search.

The BAMB Readers Awards shortlists have also been announced and readers can vote for their favourites. The non-fiction shortlist includes two books published by Canongate Books:

  • How Not To Be a Boy by Robert Webb and
  • Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig.

Polly Clark author of Helensburgh-set Larchfield (Riverrun) is shortlisted in the Breakthrough Author category.
