Duais Dhòmhnaill Meek / The Donald Meek Award

Funded by Creative Scotland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig and administered by The Gaelic Books Council, the Donald Meek Award is an annual literary competition which seeks to encourage new and creative Scottish Gaelic writing by emerging and established Gaelic writers.

The competition is open to authors of new Scottish Gaelic creative works - poetry, short stories, novels or drama.

Six books were shortlisted for the Donald Meek Award 2016:

  • An Làmh a Bheir by Seonaidh Charity (Sandstone Press)
  • An Leabhar Liath by Peter Mackay & John S MacPherson (Luath Press)
  • Breab, Breab, Breab by John Urquhart
  • Crotal Ruadh by Sandy NicDhòmhnaill Jones (Acair)
  • Granaidh Afraga by Morag Ann MacNeil
  • Mil san Tì by Seonag Monk

The 2016 award to An Leabhar Liath was announced at an evening reception at the  National Piping Centre in Glasgow on 6 October.
