New bookshop opens in Fort William

24 July 2017

Fort William has a new bookshop. The Highland Bookshop - in a large retail space in the middle of the town's High Street - was opened on 14 July by author Alexander McCall Smith.

The shop was set up by Kevin and Jayne Ramage, owners of the Watermill Bookshop in Aberfeldy, a former  winner of 'UK Independent Bookshop of the Year', in collaboration with Angus MacDonald, a Lochaber-based author and entrepreneur.

The new bookshop has an extensive stock across all subject areas, including fiction, outdoors, Scottish and children's, to cater for visitors as well as the local community.

Natasha Onwuemezi reports in The Bookseller of 24 July 2017 that the first few days of trade have exceeded expectations. The Bookseller also reports that the main wholesale supply for the shop is by Gardners, supported by Bertrams with many Scottish titles coming via Scottish distributors BookSource and Lomond Books.
