Sweet Fruit, Sour Land wins Not the Booker Prize 2018

15 October 2018

Sweet Fruit, Sour Land by Rebecca Ley (published by Sandstone Press) is the winner of the 2018 Not the Booker Prize.

The three judges decided to overrule the public vote and put their weight behind this dark dystopian novel in the place of public vote winner Ariel Kahn's Raising Sparks (Bluemoose Books). The judges said that 'The stark poetry and sincerity of Ley's novel ... made them certain in their choice. It's also notable that this novel rewarded rereading more than others on the list'.
