Project: Accelerate Programme for Emerging Publishers

We will be running the Accelerate Programme again in 2017/18. The deadline for applications is Friday 10 February 2017.

This exciting programme of advice, training and support from Publishing Scotland is open to publishing companies who are in the early stages of their development and want a helping hand to grow their business.

By taking part, the participating companies will fast track their growth by acquiring knowledge, contacts and confidence that usually take years to build. With that as the guiding principle, we've built a programme that incorporates the essentials and is delivered by some of the most knowledgeable, experienced and inspiring professionals we've come across.

The programme costs £250+VAT (£150+VAT for Publishing Scotland members) and for that you get an audit of your present publishing status to help you identify what you need, plus participation in all the parts of the Accelerate Programme.

At least two people from each company can take part in all of the sessions. Participation in every session is desirable. The majority of sessions will be in Edinburgh. The programme is set out below with dates and some workshop leaders still to be confirmed but this will give you a good idea of what is involved.

April to June 2017

  • Publishing needs audit - individual date in April/May to be agreed with each participating company (Marion Sinclair and Joan Lyle of Publishing Scotland)
  • Finance / Profit & Loss workshop - Kate Gibb (Canongate Books): 10 May
  • Introduction to Marketing workshop - Gill Tasker
  • Nielsen Publisher Seminar (Edinburgh): 15 June 2017

Seven organisations were allocated places on the first programme and there will be a similar number this time round. Priority will be given to publishers who have been publishing for three years or fewer but longer established publishers will be considered. Self-publishers are not eligible.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Joan Lyle as soon as possible ( and no later than Friday 10 February 2017. If you are not a Publishing Scotland member, please tell us a bit about your publishing operation including how you plan to develop it in the next few years.
