Booksellers Association

The Booksellers Association represents and promotes retail bookselling in the UK and Ireland and encourages best practise and excellence. Their membership ranges from bookselling chains like Waterstone's and Blackwells, to supermarkets, academic booksellers, wholesalers, school and library suppliers, Christian and children's booksellers and over 1100 independent bookshops.

The BA provides a wide range of products and services, ranging from National Book Tokens and the payments clearing system Batch.co.uk, advice and information on legislation, trade and retail matters, a free Business Support Helpline, marketing initiatives for the industry, such as World Book Day, and also for specific sectors, like Independent Booksellers Week.

They keep a close eye on developments in technology, and have a raft of advice and information on ebooks and all the technologies that underpin the 21st century book trade.

 Find Your Local Bookshop

Keep Books on the High Street

The BA wants to give customers and website visitors the CHOICE of finding their local bookshop to buy their books and help us Keep Books on the High Street. As part of our Keep Books on the High Street campaign, the BA has developed a Find Your Local Bookshop button for publishers, partners and other interested organisations to use on their website. Used in conjunction with a booksearch link it will take website users to the BA bookshop search page, where they can search the outlets in BA membership (over 3500).  BA members range from single independents in market towns, to campus bookstores, through Christian specialists, to large national bookselling chains and supermarkets. Customers can search for All BA members, Independents Only and/or Chain and Independent Booksellers - and can then decide whether to buy online or visit their community bookshop. You can get more information, download posters etc on the BA website at Keep Books on the High Street.
