Freight Books

Freight Books, based in Glasgow, is an independent award-winning publisher focused on fiction, non-fiction and poetry. They were named Scottish Publisher of the Year by the Saltire Society in 2015.

We are committed to publishing work by established writers, brilliant debuts, short story collections, forgotten classics, occasional novels-in-translation and, from time to time, poetry collections. We also have a growing list of non-fiction and humour titles, including In Rude Health which has sold over 60 000 copies. Other notable titles published by Freight include the award-winning Any Other Mouth by Anneliese Mackintosh, Jellyfish by Janice Galloway, and  the International bestseller The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu. We also publish Gutter, Scotland's leading magazine of new writing, which regularly publishes new work  by seasoned writers such as Louise Welsh, Ronald Frame, Janice Galloway, Alasdair Gray, Ewan Morrison, Ron Butlin and Liz Lochhead alongside previously unpublished authors.

Periodical projects include design and typesetting of the Scottish Review of Books, alumni magazines for University of Edinburgh and University of West of Scotland and staff magazines for Glasgow City Council. The company has also worked on a wide range of book jacket design projects for companies such as Hachette Scotland, Black and White, STL, Paternoster and Rutherford House.

Freight Design is Freight Books' sister company based in Glasgow and works with a wide range of commercial, public and third sector organisations across brand identity, literature, web, exhibitions and packaging. The company regularly wins creative awards for its work.
