Neal started in the industry as a junior bookseller at John Smiths in Glasgow. He then managed the John Smiths Glasgow Garden Festival Bookshop before joining Bookspeed and then Gardners as a Sales Rep. During this time he launched Atkinson-Pryce Bookshop in Biggar, and while running the bookshop started working for 4th Estate as their Scotland and North East England Account Manager. In 2000 he sold the bookshop to Chris McCosh, who continues to own and run it… very successfully!

He then moved to London and started working for Simon & Schuster as UK Key Accounts Manager, rising to UK Sales Director by 2004. His next role was at Faber & Faber as UK Sales Director. At the end of 2015 he joined Canongate as Sales Director.
