Edinburgh International Book Festival to move to new city-centre home in 2024

The Edinburgh International Book Festival have announced that they will move to a brand-new city centre and University of Edinburgh site – the Edinburgh Futures Institute – in 2024.

Before that they will present the 2022 and 2023 Book Festival at the Edinburgh College of Art again, expanding their current site at Edinburgh College of Art, with both increased capacity and number of venues. Last year was the first year the Book Festival had moved site since its inception in 1983, and it was the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership with the University of Edinburgh.

As part of this partnership, the Book Festival will move to the Edinburgh Futures Institute in 2024, a landmark development based on the site of the old Royal Infirmary on Lauriston Place.  The University of Edinburgh is transforming this iconic building into a state-of-the-art space for multi-disciplinary collaborations and partnerships, with the aim to fulfil the pledge set in stone above the main entrance: ‘patet omnibus’ – open to all.
