Ian Rankin awarded a knighthood in Queen’s birthday honours list

Many congratulations to Edinburgh-based award-winning crime writer Ian Rankin who has been honoured with a knighthood for services to literature and charity.

The Bookseller lists others in the book world who have also been honoured. They include James Daunt, MD of Waterstones who is to receive a CBE for services to publishing; Sir Quentin Blake, Sir Salman Rushdie and Dame Marina Warner who will all be Companions of Honour; and Joanne Harris who will receive an OBE for services to literature. Paddington Bear was also delighted to be honoured by the Queen with an invitation to tea. The much-loved bear who first appeared in books by Michael Bond, featured along with the Queen in a short film shown during the Platinum Party at the Palace: see a clip on the BBC website.
