Booker Prize longlist 2022

The longlist for the Booker Prize 2022 announced on 26 July includes the excellent Case Study by Graeme Macrae Burnett published by member Saraband. This is the second time Graeme Macrae Burnett has been listed His Bloody Project made the shortlist in 2016.

The longlist includes:

  • the youngest and oldest authors ever to be nominated (Leila Mottley 20 and Alan Garner who will be 88 on 17 October)
  • the shortest book (116 pages long Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan)
  • three debuts (by Maddie Mortimer, Leila Mottley and Selby Wynn Schwartz)
  • two new publishers receiving their first ever nominations (Influx Press and Sort of Books).

The majority of the books longlisted were published by independent publishers.

Chair of the judges Neil MacGregor said ‘The list offers story, fable and parable, fantasy, mystery, meditation and thriller’.  

The shortlist will be unveiled on 6 September and the winner will be announced on 17 October.
