This year, National Poetry Day (NPD) is on Thursday 6 October 2022 and the theme is The Environment.
NPD is an annual mass celebration that encourages everyone to make, experience and share poetry with family and friends. You can find out more on the National Poetry Day website.
In Scotland, the Scottish Poetry Library (SPL) has set up a NPD hub on its website with poems on this year’s theme. There’s a specially commissioned circle poetry resource for schools along with links to lots of other schools resources and other NPD goodies. Look out too for recordings of Scottish poets reading either a nature poem they’ve written or one that they like – these films will be released by SPL on its Twitter feed @byleaveswelive throughout NPD.
The UK’s four national poetry libraries will be taking over the Twitter feed of the RSPB for the whole of the week beginning 3 October 2022. SPL’s day is Monday and it will be tweeting paintings and poems from a project that it is involved with.
