Congratulations to Charco Press who have three books listed for prestigious translation awards. All three books are Spanish to English translations.
Two have been shortlisted for the 2022 Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize, a $10,000 prize honouring the best English translation of a work written originally in the Spanish language. They are: Byobu by Ida Vitale, translated by Sean Manning, and Elena Knows by Claudia Piñeiro, translated by Frances Riddle.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 29 November in New York.
In addition Brickmakers by Salma Alvada, translated from Spanish by Annie McDermott, is shortlisted* for The Warwick Prize for Women in Translation 2022.
The £1000 prize was established by the University of Warwick in 2017 to address the gender imbalance in translated literature and to increase the number of international women’s voices accessible by a British and Irish readership.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony at The Shard in London on Thursday 24 November 2022.
