There's lots of scope for creativity in and around the
book industry not limited to but definitely including:
Writers (of course!) -
fiction, non-fiction, poetry, comics and more. See some of them on
the Scottish Book Trust website.
Designers. Not just
covers but page layout for books, catalogues, leaflets, postcards
and other promotional materials. See eg Raspberry Creative Type and further afield
the award winning gray318 and Keenan
Design. See also the Academy of Book Cover Design website for
lots of great covers.
Illustrators. They work on
beautiful picture books, comics galore and everything else that
needs an illustration. Have a look at the Scottish Illustrators website and Picture Hooks (for emerging
illustrators).
Marketers and Publicists.
Persuasive writing and engaging campaigns (on social media, word of
mouth, on radio etc) are a big part of what marketers do. Many of
these professionalos join the Publishers Publicity Circle and
the PPC website gives a flavour of what they
do.
Photographers. Publishers
and authors sometimes need photographs for books but they also need
good photos of themselves for publicity purposes. Chris
Scott, Sandy Young and Sinéad Grainger are among the
photographers that work with a lot of book people.
