The non-traditional book market is becoming increasingly important for publishers as more retail outlets curate book offers for their customers. Bookspeed is one of the leading wholesalers for the non-traditional book market.

Publishing Scotland will host Jonny Gallant, Publisher Relations Director of Bookspeed, for a hybrid Open Book session on Thursday 29 September at 11.30am at the Publishing Scotland office and online to tell us more about the trends in the non-traditional market as well as sharing tips on the best way to work with Bookspeed.

Independent Bookshop Week 2022

Independent Bookshop Week 2022 is taking place Saturday 18th to  Saturday 25th June. As well as bookshop events, the Indie Book Awards 2022 winners will be announced on Friday 24th June.

Independent Bookshop Week is a celebration of independent bookshops in the UK highlighting the vital role independent bookshops play in their communities. The campaign was launched in 2006 by the Booksellers Association. Independent Bookshop Week is sponsored by Hachette UK.

There are many reasons to shop at independent bookshops including:

  • They are staffed with book experts who are wildly passionate about reading and getting the right book into the right hands.
  • Independent bookshops bring vitality to our high streets, work with local communities and champion reading for pleasure.
  • Independent bookshops generate local jobs and contribute to our local economy and local community.
  • Independent bookshops have real passion, real people and real conversations.
  • Independent bookshops offer proper browsing, perfect gifts and they pay their taxes!

Every bookshop will have their own way of celebrating Independent Bookshop Week so make sure you find out what your local has planned  – whether it’s an in-store author signing, a virtual event, book club, special offers and more. You can search for your local bookshop on the Booksellers Association website.
