PS and SLIC Publishing and Libraries Day

14 September 2017

Publishing and Libraries Day was organised by Publishing Scotland and SLIC and took take place on Thursday 14 September 2017 at the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church in Nicolson Square.

Building on the success of last year's event held at the Mitchell Library, this year's event enabled librarians to hear about publishers' top titles for 2017/2018 and forge direct relationships between both parties.  In collaboration with SLIC (Scottish Library and Information Council), our aim was to build on the attendance from last year so we were delighted with both the turnout and lively atmosphere.  There were 47 librarians and 15 publishers represented, taking the total number of attendees to over 80.

Held at the Edinburgh Methodist Church in Nicolson Square, we facilitated a packed day of presentations and one to one meetings between publishers and library buyers from all over Scotland. After introductions from Marion Sinclair, CEO of Publishing Scotland, and Pamela Tulloch, CEO of SLIC, our publisher members gave presentations of their key titles. A networking lunch followed, sponsored by Bertram Library Services and Bolinda, who also gave presentations.

The afternoon was filled with tightly timed one to one meetings (with our P S bell proving a loud success!)  This gave everyone plenty of time to meet and discuss specific books, authors and events.

Feedback from the day has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope to repeat this successful formula next year, and further develop a positive relationship between publishers and librarians.
