Edinburgh University Press acquires Avizandum Publishing

19 August 2019

Edinburgh University Press announced on 13 August 2019 that it has acquired the publishing assets of Avizandum Publishing for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is in line with Edinburgh University Press' current strategy to grow its scholarly publishing business. The deal does not include Avizandum bookshop in Edinburgh, which continues to operate as an independent business.

Timothy Wright, Chief Executive of Edinburgh University Press, commented:

We are delighted that Avizandum Publishing has chosen Edinburgh University Press as the new home for its well-respected list of Scots law books. As we celebrate 70 years of publishing, this is an excellent and exciting development for the Press. The list will underpin our ongoing commissioning in the area of law and will complement the list of titles acquired from Dundee University Press in 2013 as well as our ongoing commissioning. As part of the deal, Margaret Cherry of Avizandum Publishing will be staying on for a year in a consultancy role providing valuable expertise to the editorial team.

Margaret Cherry, Director of Avizandum, added:

This is an exciting opportunity for Avizandum's authors. Edinburgh University Press's reputation for excellence across all its subject areas is well known, and its worldwide marketing and distribution means that is can bring Scots law to a wider readership than a small publisher like Avizandum can ever aspire to. I am delighted that the list is to stay in Scotland and that it will be in such good hands.
