In August 2019, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon met with
representatives of Scottish publishing to discuss challenges facing
the sector. The First Minister subsequently wrote:
"A clear theme coming out of the discussion was access to finance
and business support. There were points made around the distinction
between funding for projects and funding to support structure and
questions were raised regarding the role of the different public
sector partners, including Creative Scotland and the Enterprise
agencies. Support to export internationally was also mentioned as
an area where the current landscape was far from
straightforward.
We will explore with our partners, including
Creative
Scotland, Scottish Enterprise and the other Enterprise
Agencies, Business Gateway and
Publishing Scotland, how the current business
support system is working across the different strands of support
and what more can be done to provide greater clarity and more
effective support."
Publishing Scotland has undertaken to survey publishers to help us
understand support needs in order to frame conversations with
partners in the business support system.
Thank you in advance for your time in completing this survey. It
should take no longer than 30/35 minutes and has been structured so
as to preserve anonymity. All information collected will be treated
in confidence. Comments made will not be attributed to any
individual or company.
