Scottish Universities Press

Scottish Universities Press is a collaborative, library-led initiative, owned and operated by 18 participating HEIs. The project is being co-ordinated through SCURL (Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries). SUP aims to provide a clear and cost-effective route for researchers to make their work freely available to a global audience, meeting the requirements of funders and realising the government ambition to extend the impact of research across society.  SUP hopes to offer a clear route to a professional standard of publishing on a not-for-profit basis. SUP will initially publish monographs by academics from our participating institutions in any discipline.

We will extend to publish other types of content, such as journals and e-textbooks, as SUP develops. Content will be published open access and will be freely available to access on our online publishing platform. We will also offer a ‘print on demand’ service for the books. The development of the press is led by a Management Board with a representative from each institution. We are in the process of recruiting our Editorial Board which will manage the publishing output, including the peer review process. Our online publishing platform is also in development with the University of Edinburgh. The aim is to launch the Press in Autumn 2022.
