Nielsen BookData provides a range of services to the book industry internationally, aiding the discovery and purchase, distribution and sales measurement of books. Nielsen BookData is responsible for the ISBN and SAN Agencies for UK & Ireland as well as providing search and discovery services for booksellers and libraries. Its research services provide retail sales analysis for both print and e-books alongside research from the Books and Consumers Survey.

For publishers Nielsen BookData offers a range of services from assigning an ISBN to a book to adding metadata to its database and providing promotional tools to help market books.

Book2Look now features on Bookshop.org

Bookshop.org is now using Book2Look for its ‘Look Inside’ content giving browsers a unique preview into a book allowing them to access sample pages as well as additional content such as reviews and video/audio clips. Nielsen BookData is working with publishers of all sizes to create ‘Look Inside’ content for their books and can now automatically generate Book2Look biblets via ONIX (contact them for more details). Martins the Printers

Martins the Printers is an independent family-owned book printers with a history dating back to 1892. They have operated from Berwick-upon-Tweed, in the North East of England since this time. In the 1950s the company started to concentrate on its book publishing connections and has remained dedicated to book printing ever since.

Most of their turnover comes from major international publishers, where, without exception, they have a close working partnership based on successful trading together. Of course, they also work with smaller publishers and welcome new business.

Over recent years, the company has made significant investment in pre-press, presses, folding and binding to meet increasing customer demand and to give rapid turnaround times with excellent service.

They now print in full colour or black and white both on litho utilising CTP or on the latest digital presses. All binding and finishing is performed on site.

Booksellers Association

The Booksellers Association represents and promotes retail bookselling in the UK and Ireland and encourages best practice and excellence. Their membership ranges from bookselling chains like Waterstone’s and Blackwells, to supermarkets, academic booksellers, wholesalers, school and library suppliers, Christian and children’s booksellers and over 1100 independent bookshops.

The BA provides a wide range of products and services, ranging from National Book Tokens and the payments clearing system Batch.co.uk, advice and information on legislation, trade and retail matters, a free Business Support Helpline, marketing initiatives for the industry, such as World Book Day, and also for specific sectors, like Independent Booksellers Week.

They keep a close eye on developments in technology, and have a raft of advice and information on ebooks and all the technologies that underpin the 21st century book trade.

The BA’s website has a Bookshop Search page, where you can find all the bookshop members of the Booksellers Association in the UK & Ireland. You can search all members, or by a range of filters. You will find helpful information about all bookshops listed, as well as website and telephone numbers.
