Cathy Tingle
Cathy Tingle has many years’ experience in academic and business publications. After completing her PhD in English Literature she spent a decade producing marketing communications materials – annual reports, product leaflets, magazines and directories – for an educational awarding body. Following a four-year stint as editor of the Edinburgh for Under Fives guidebook she trained in copy-editing and proofreading with Publishing Scotland under Margaret Aherne and is now an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
Cathy has copy-edited undergraduate-level textbooks in subjects from theatre and media to law and health sciences for publishers such as Palgrave, Routledge and Bloomsbury, plus journal articles and fiction, under her business name, DocEditor (www.doceditor.co.uk). She is also membership director for the CIEP.
Cathy is the tutor for:
- Editing for Better Communications
- Introduction to Copy-editing
- Further Copy-editing
In addition to her scheduled Publishing Scotland courses, Cathy offers bespoke online in-house copy-editing courses for organisations in specific sectors. Recently these have included academic editing and copy-editing for journalists. She can also adapt the Introduction to Copy-Editing, Further Copy-Editing and Editing for Better Communications courses to meet individual organisations’ requirements. Bespoke courses involve an in-depth look at the materials published by your organisation, with tailored advice, customised learning points and valuable resources to help you communicate as effectively as possible with your audience.
