In 2014 we did a pilot app, Bookspotting, which used smartphone technology to help users explore, and easily access, a wide range of Scottish-interest books. Bookspotting's aim was to help users discover great writing at their fingertips; all the books featured have a strong connection to place, whether rural or urban, and GPS-driven technology geo-located books and authors and linked them to dates, themes, and distinct locations around Scotland.

The app could be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play but as a pilot it has not been updated and so it is likely that if you downloaded it then, it will no longer work on your phone. Bookspotting was shortlisted for a prestigious FutureBook Innovation Award in 2014 for best use of digital in a marketing campaign.
