Edinburgh International Book Festival

Publishing Scotland and the Edinburgh International Book Festival

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is the largest and most dynamic festival of its kind in the world. In addition to hundreds of author events, it runs independent bookshops during the Festival: one for adults and one for children.

Publishing Scotland has been closely involved with the Festival from its inception in 1983 (even sharing office space for a few years) and we and our members take part in three ways:

  1. We offer our publisher members shelf space in the Festival Bookshops
  2. We collaborate on an event for the Festival's main programme
  3. We host a reception for members at the Festival.

Shelf space and bookshops

The footfall at the Festival is large so this is an excellent opportunity to display and sell titles to a book-loving audience. Publishing Scotland negotiates discounted rates for sales space in the bookshops and passes them on to our members. We also organise the member bookings and liaise with the Bookshops Manager on the layout of our area. During the Festival we make daily visits to the bookshops to help the booksellers ensure that the display is stocked and tidy. It's also a great opportunity to meet our publishers and their authors and readers as the Festival is the centre of the book world at that time of year.

Publishing Scotland's event in the Festival programme

Every year Publishing Scotland is proud to collaborate with the Festival team to produce an event in the official Festival programme.

Summer reception at the Festival

As the Festival is undoubtedly a highlight of the publishing year, Publishing Scotland holds an annual reception there for members and other guests.
