About the Publishing Fellowship

The next Publishing Fellowship

Ten publishers will be taking part in the 2022 Fellowship which had to be postponed from 2020 (and then 2021) because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Applications were considered by the Fellowship Steering Group consisting of publishers, agents, and Publishing Scotland.

Publishing Scotland’s International Fellowship Programme aims to encourage relationships between the international publishing community and their Scottish counterparts, and facilitate the buying and selling of rights.

Part-funded by Creative Scotland, the Fellowship celebrated a successful fifth year in 2019 and has so far brought together 45 publishers from 17 countries worldwide.

Application Process

Normally applications for the current year close in January and the successful Fellows are notified in early spring. However, due to the postponement of the 2020 programme (to first 2021 and then 2022) there will be no application process for 2022.

For more information about previous Fellows, see our 2020 Fellowship Brochure (PDF).

About the inaugural programme in 2015

We established a new Publishing Fellowship Programme in 2015. For the inaugural programme, eight international publishers were invited to come to Scotland for a week in August to meet Scottish publishers and agents – and visit the world-class Edinburgh International Book Festival (see PDF leaflet).

They were chosen by our steering committee based upon their standing in the publishing community and their previous interest and links with the industry here.

The Programme took place from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 August 2015, to coincide with the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The eight Fellows visited publishing houses and agents, saw market presentations, attended match-making events and dinners, and many more networking opportunities in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands over the week. There were opportunities to see a bit of the country and to spend time at the Edinburgh International Book Festival (the world’s largest book festival) and other festivals in Edinburgh.
